Overview
The City is exploring ways to make Assessment & Taxation notices clearer, more transparent, and easier to use. We’re asking residents for feedback on how well the current notice explains their assessment and taxes, and what changes would make it easier to read and understand. This includes whether residents would prefer separate notices for municipal and provincial taxes.
Engagement Objectives
Through this engagement, we aim to:
Understand how clearly residents can interpret their current Assessment & Taxation notice
Identify which sections need more explanation or visual support
Explore resident preferences for enhancements (e.g., comparison graphs and previous year data)
Gauge willingness to support improvements that involve costs
Gather ideas and suggestions directly from taxpayers
Assess whether separate tax notices would help residents understand the municipal versus provincial portion
Residents can participate by:
Completing the online survey below (approx. 15 minutes)
Visiting us at the Community Conversation, Thursday, January 29, 2026 3-7 p.m. at the VisitLethbridge.com Arena, to view sample notice concepts and provide feedback in person
Background
Property assessment and taxation notices provide important information about how a property’s assessed value is determined and how municipal taxes are calculated. Feedback has highlighted a need to review whether the notice is clear, easy to understand and accessible to all taxpayers. Potential enhancements may include improved wording, layout changes, visual aids (such as charts or comparison graphs), historical data or breakdown explanations. We are also exploring whether separate notices clarify municipal versus provincial taxes, or if residents prefer a single combined notice with enhancements. Before making updates, we want to hear from the community.
