FAQs
WHAT IS CLIMATE ADAPTATION?
As defined by the National Adaptation Strategy for Canada, climate change adaptation means “planning for and acting on the anticipated impacts of climate change. It involves making changes to how we live and what we do before climate change impacts happen (anticipatory) as well as being ready to respond to increasingly likely and frequent extreme events (reactive)”.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO COMPLETE THE PLAN?
The Climate Adaptation Strategy and Action Plan project was initiated in March of 2023. Over the spring and fall of 2023, the City will be engaging with local organizations, residents, and other stakeholders around the vision and guiding principles of the Plan. We aim to finalize the Plan in early 2024 with a submission to City Council in the spring of 2024.
WHY SHOULD I GET INVOLVED?
We want to hear your thoughts about climate adaptation and city resiliency: what are your concerns, what do you value, and what is your level of preparedness for extreme weather events or climate emergencies? The Get Involved Lethbridge project page, and other planned engagement events are two avenues where you can provide your input. Stay up-to-date on opportunities to share your vision by subscribing to the project updates through the ‘Stay Informed’ tool.
HOW WILL MY INPUT BE USED?
Your input will help shape the strategic direction of the Climate Adaptation Strategy and Action Plan and will inform how the City can help with community climate resiliency.
