What is the Crowsnest Trail Pathway Project?
The City is working on the design of Crowsnest Trail Pathway Project in preparation for 2025 construction.
The pathway will run from Mayor Magrath Drive South, near the intersection of 4th Avenue South, along the south side of the Crowsnest Trail (Hwy 3), and into the WT Hill Business Park area:
The west end of the project begins near the Sandman Inn, through the water reservoir site to the Crowsnest Trail on-ramp.
East of the on-ramp, the pathway will be constructed as a shared lane space that will be paved.
The pathway will then run along the grass boulevard on the south side of Crowsnest Trail, across the 28 Street Intersection (planned for upgrade as part of the project) and continue across the CPKC rail crossing to the 30 St. S./1 Ave. S. access road.
On the east side of the rail crossing, the pathway will then continue within the boulevard space or utilizing the existing parking lane along 1 Ave S, 34 Street S, and 4 Ave S.
It will end at the 4 Ave S / WT Hill Blvd. S intersection.
What impact will this project have on the surrounding area?
The pathway will impact adjacent properties, users, and the community in several ways. Here are the key features and points of interest:
The City will be constructing the asphalt pathway within or adjacent to the boulevard or lane space along your property. Landscape restoration will be included in the scope of work, and any trees, shrubs or other landscaping impacted by the construction will be replaced. The City is responsible for snow clearing and other maintenance along pathways in Lethbridge.
The pathway will cross a rail line and will require safety controls for pathway users. This will be the first crossing of this type in Lethbridge.
This pathway will eventually provide connectivity to the MPE Link Pathway (linkpathway.org).
Construction is expected to start in Spring of 2025 and be completed mid-November, 2025.
