City working on procurement bid for EMS contract

Emergency Health Services-Alberta (EHS) has issued its Request for Expressions of Interest and Qualifications (RFEOI/Q) for Ground Emergency Health Services. For Lethbridge, this procurement process is the next step the City has been anticipating and preparing for since May of 2026.

Teams across the organization are working extremely hard to prepare a strong submission with the goal of being the successful proponent and continuing to provide EMS in Lethbridge.

As the City enters into this competitive procurement, details cannot be shared publicly in order to protect the integrity of the process. Once a procurement is issued, communications related to that procurement become restricted until a contract is formally awarded and executed.

The City of Lethbridge continues to support the integrated Fire & Emergency Medical Services (EMS) model and are working diligently to secure a new EMS contract with EHS.

On May 12, City Council made the difficult decision not to accept new contract conditions from EHS due to the impacts it would have on Lethbridge taxpayers.

Emergency Medical Services for residents in Lethbridge have not changed. The City’s contract term with EHS ended on September 30, but Lethbridge Fire & Emergency Services will continue to provide transition services until a new contract or service provider is put in place.
