FAQs
Does Fare capping limit the number of trips I can take?
No. Fare Capping puts a limit on how much you will be charged within the capping period but does not limit your trips.
How will the new fare collection system work?
Instead of using a Breeze Card, you can pay directly on the bus with your debit card, credit card or phone. The system recognizes each time you use the same payment method and automatically “caps” your payment at the set amount.
Will my Breeze Card still work?
No, Breeze Cards will be phased out as we approach the kickoff date. Lethbridge Transit will work with you to ensure that the remaining balances are not lost.
Will you still accept cash?
Yes, cash will still be accepted on all Lethbridge Transit buses, but you cannot take advantage of fare capping with cash.
I don’t have a phone, debit card or credit card – how do I take advantage of the fare caps?
Visa and Mastercard gift cards are available at major retailers across Lethbridge and can be used with the new fare collection system. Alternatively, reloadable Lethbridge Transit cards will be available at the City Centre Terminal/Park and Ride and at City Hall.
How does Lethbridge Transit know what the impact of these fare changes will be?
Lethbridge Transit developed an elasticity model that estimates the impact of various changes of fare payment on ridership and revenue. Although this is a sophisticated model that is based upon local and industry benchmarks and best practices, it is only an estimate and does not account for any other criteria that affect ridership, such as service levels and development patterns.
How is the U-Pass affected by this structure change?
The U-Pass will not be impacted under the new fare structure.
What options are available for the seniors under the new fare structure?
Seniors are categorized as reduced fare under the new structure.
