We hear you and we're starting to make changes

Since the Mobility/Accessibility Community Forum on October 30, we have been working with our consultants to compile your feedback.

Although there are a number of factors that will influence certain changes to the physical environment, we are looking at some quick changes that will improve mobility and accessibility for all people, including those with physical, sensory and cognitive disabilities.

What we heard: the timing of the pedestrian light at 6 Avenue South and 7 Street South was not long enough. Those with mobility issues would often have trouble making it across in time, posing a danger to both the pedestrian and vehicle traffic.

What we’ve changed: after evaluating the intersection and use of the pedestrian light, city staff were able to increase the crossing time to better accommodate pedestrians with mobility issues. This change was implemented at 6 Street South, 7 Street South and 8 Street South for consistency along 6 Avenue South.
