As part of the Capital Improvement Program (Page D-10), the City of Lethbridge is constructing a multi-use pathway along the west side of 43 Street S, from South Parkside Drive S to 24 Avenue S. The path will extend along the south side of South Parkside Drive S, connecting to the existing path in the green strip along Lakeview Drive S.

There are planned changes to the sidewalk space in front of residences along South Parkside Drive. We are interested in gathering feedback on how this work will impact the residents of this stretch of the roadway.

Residents who back on to 43 Street will have a new pathway behind their homes, on the east side of the existing berm. The City is taking active measures to overcome the design challenges in the area including physical obstacles, utility conflicts, privacy concerns, and pathway/roadway user safety.

What is the Pathway 17 project?

The City began working on the design of Pathway 17 in 2023, which runs along 43 Street South (Highway 4) from South Parkside Drive to 24 Avenue South. As part of the next phase of Pathway 17, the City will be constructing an asphalt pathway to complete a loop in the path network that creates a safer opportunity for community recreation and special events.

How does this project impact me?

For the residents along South Parkside Drive, the City will be replacing the sidewalk concrete adjacent to your property with an asphalt path, somewhere between 2m and 3m wide. The width will be determined based on impact to adjacent infrastructure and community feedback. The City will be responsible for snow removal of this new path.

The residents along 43 Street will notice commuters (pedestrians, cyclists, e-cyclists, etc.) using the pathway to the east of their backyards, on the east side of the berm.

Construction is expected to occur sometime between June and November 2024.

How can I give my feedback about this project?

We want to be aware of any potential impacts this may have to you and how we can mitigate these issues. You can contact Craig Richter, Parks Project Manager, by phone or email. This project will also be presented at the April 25 Community Conversation, where Craig will be available to discuss the project and listen to feedback.
