The City of Lethbridge's Waste & Recycling Centre has seen a significant increase in traffic and customer demands throughout the past few years. New facilities, such as the Organics Processing Facility and the Hydrovac Waste Disposal Facility, along with increased demand for existing Landfill and Recycling facilities, have led to an overall traffic increase and customer waiting times at the current scaling facility. Additionally, the current scale house and traffic scaling systems are at the end of their useable lives.
This project aims to prevent long lineups, provide regulatory compliance, reduce wait times and address on-site traffic congestion issues while replacing end-of-life assets. It includes the replacement of the existing scale house and scaling system, and the installation of new traffic management devices. The new scaling system will double the capacity of the scale system (two in-bound and two out-bound scale decks) while offering automated fast-track lanes for commercial and frequent customers.
Construction will take place from June to November 2025. Funding for this project was approved and provided by the City of Lethbridge Capital Improvement Program.
