Let's Talk Trash!

Project Background

The City of Lethbridge is creating a comprehensive Waste Management Plan to guide the future of waste diversion and prevention-related activities within the City of Lethbridge. Specifically, the plan will leverage existing programs and propose new programs and activities to further Lethbridge's waste diversion potential.

The City of Lethbridge aims to advance the current waste management system in an effort to shift to a more circular economy. The City’s program improvements and new activities will be informed by industry best practices, community insights and municipal frameworks (such as recent plans, policies and public feedback).

This plan contributes directly to achieving one of City Council’s six strategic priorities; protecting and preserving our natural environment in Lethbridge, aiming to promote and provide opportunities for waste diversion.

Mission

The City of Lethbridge Waste & Recycling Utility's mission is to provide the community with an integrated and sustainable waste management system to maintain a clean, healthy urban environment.

Get Involved

The City will be seeking input from residents, businesses and industry stakeholders to inform the final plan. The first phase of engagement gathered input on the values and concerns associated with waste in Lethbridge. Phase 1 included surveys, focus groups and virtual open houses, where residents and businesses provided input to inform the new Waste Management Master Plan. Thanks to all who participated!

The second phase of engagement will seek feedback on the proposed programs and activities before the City brings the plan into action. Stay tuned for Phase 2 engagement events!
