Every 10 years, the City of Lethbridge needs to renew its approval for operations at the Waste and Recycling Centre (WRC). These operations include the landfill, gas, hydrovac and compost facilities.
Waste management facilities in Alberta are overseen by Alberta Environment and Protected Areas (AEPA) to make sure they are safe for people and the environment. The City of Lethbridge's WRC follows rules under the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act (EPEA) for the design, construction, operation and maintenance of its facilities. These rules include general and specific requirements to meet environmental goals.
The current approval expires in October 2026, and the City is now working on a renewal application which involves public feedback.
The City is hosting two open houses for the public to attend and provide any feedback or concerns:
April 30, 5 - 7 p.m. - Culver City room at City Hall, 910 4 Avenue South Lethbridge
May 27, 5 - 7 p.m. - Blue Sky Centre at the Waste and Recycling Centre, 213044 Township Rd 100, Lethbridge County
If you are unable to attend the open houses, you can still provide feedback in the survey below.
