2021 Park Projects


Drainage and Erosion Repairs

Construction will address drainage and erosion issues at four west side parks, including:

  • Coachwood Point
  • Coalbanks Park
  • Firelight Park
  • Heritage Circle Park

The work entails drainage improvements using a combination of drain tile, catch basins, re-grading, and repair work.


Henderson Park Irrigation

This lifecycle project will wrap up the final portion of the irrigation replacement around Spitz stadium batting cages, rose gardens and horse shoe pits. All turf rehabilitation will be completed as well. Project is scheduled to be complete by May.


Legacy Park

  • Spray Park - ongoing construction, scheduled to be complete fall 2021.
  • Discovery Playground - Construction will begin around June 1 and be complete fall 2021.
  • Community Picnic Shelter - construction is nearly complete on the bookable picnic shelter.


Pathways

  • Elizabeth Hall Wetland - existing pathways will be rehabilitated - Fall 2021
  • Bark Park - pathways will be added to the project this summer
  • Henderson Park - rubber surfaced pathway from central playground to surrounding amenities including washroom, picnic shelter and main pathway will be completed in 2021
  • Legacy Park - rubber surfaced pathways in and around future discovery playground will be completed 2021


Playground Rubber Surfacing - COMPLETE MAY 20 2021

Construction will take place in 2021 for the replacement of pea gravel playground surfacing with poured-in-place rubber surfacing at four existing playgrounds, including:

  • Bluefox Park
  • Fairmont Park
  • Lakeview Green Strip North (Active 20-30 Playground)
  • William Pearce Park

This project will also replace the existing rubber surfacing at Henderson Park playground as it has reached the end of its useful life.

Rubber surfacing will increase the safety and accessibility for these playgrounds.


Peenaquim Park Disc Golf

Parks is working with the Lethbridge Disc Golf Association to install a dryland, low maintenance 18 hole disc golf course in Peenaquim Park. Course will have its own parking lot and pathways to direct players.
