Recreation and Culture is embarking on a new Master Planning process. Master planning exercises and regular updates on the status of facilities and associated infrastructure, programming and services needs to support the City of Lethbridge as it grows and expands. The work conducted helps the City stay current and on top of the condition of physical assets, assess facilities' suitability for current and future programming needs, as well as helps the city understand the community's changing needs and desires related to recreational and culture time.

We are currently working with a consultant who will guide our work and provide us with the following outcomes:

  • A brief review of the outcomes and recommendations from the two previous master plans
  • A review and assessment of current recreation and culture facilities, structural and programming areas to assess functionality, ongoing viability and options for facility redevelopment
  • Develop and/or provide best practices associated with investing in the existing and new infrastructure
  • Outline common expectations for recreation and culture within the city through engagement and consultation, including gathering data and information from groups and organizations providing recreation and leisure programs and services to residents
  • Expand on and further develop the 2013 Master Plan "Planning Triggers". Describe and define current service levels
  • Describe current demographic profiles, services, programs and infrastructure and develop future state(s) options for each including a timeline and strategy to address city growth and expansion
  • Research and inform future policy development work done by Recreation & Culture and Council
  • Research and identify program gaps and strategies to address based on the City of Lethbridge service delivery model
  • Provide recommendations and strategies that will help optimize and focus service delivery.

We are looking for your input during this process. Stay tuned to this page for opportunities to provide feedback, take surveys and much more!

The City of Lethbridge is developing a Recreation and Culture Master Plan. The Master Plan is a strategic document that will guide the city's decisions and investment into these quality of life services (including facilities, programs and events). The project is scheduled for completion this year.

Gathering input from residents is critical to the development of the Master Plan. In the near future your household will be receiving a postcard in the mail. This postcard is your invitation to participate in a survey and contains a unique access code to your household. You must have this access code to participate. The findings collected from this survey will help the project team learn more about the types of recreation and culture opportunities that residents use and value, levels of satisfaction, and future needs. Residents will also have an opportunity later this year to see the findings from the survey and how this information influenced the Recreation and Culture Master Plan.

Questionnaire deadline is July 30, 2020. The survey will take you approximately 15-20 minutes to complete.

If you do not have access to a computer and wish to have a paper survey mailed to you, please contact 311.

We look forward to hearing from you!
