Consultation has concluded
As Lethbridge grows, so too does its Youth!
The Youth Advisory Council exists to foster a relationship between Lethbridge City Council and the youth of the City of Lethbridge. We will accomplish this through Advocacy, Education and Engagement. The Youth Advisory Council will:
1. Act in an advisory capacity to City Council, the City of Lethbridge and community partners on issues relevant to youth and the community.
2. Conduct relevant research and consultation that addresses current, emerging and future concerns of Lethbridge youth.
3. Provide a forum to address and discuss concerns that affect youth in Lethbridge. The Youth Advisory Committee will also provide regular updates on activities, respond to inquiries, forward recommendations and raise awareness of issues affecting youth to City Council.
Who are the youth of Lethbridge?
Anyone between the ages of 14 and 25, however, we do understand definitions of this vary. Our focus is to ensure that all youth are represented. Accordingly, if you do not fit this category, but have thoughts that you think we need to hear, please let us know.
2019 Canadian Youthful Cities Index
In Fall 2018, we initiated involvement with Youthful Cities. Through their 2019 Canadian Youthful Cities Index, we will have the opportunity to obtain detailed measurements of how youthful Lethbridge is. Consequently, we will use this information to advise City Council, the City of Lethbridge and community partners on issues that are important to local youth. Visit the Youthful Cities page under the Important Links section on our page.

In 2019, the Youth Advisory Council (YAC) and the City of Lethbridge is working with YouthfulCities to get Lethbridge on YouthfulCities’ 2019 Canadian Index. This is a nationally comparable urban index measuring 122 indicators across 21 youth infrastructure areas. When the index is complete, YAC and the City of Lethbridge will have access to valuable information regarding how Lethbridge ranks against other Canadian cities in areas like affordability, access to the arts and public spaces and support for entrepreneurship - areas which have been identified as key for the creation of a youth oriented city.
In order to collect some of the data YouthfulCities is seeking for the index, a Canadian Urban Issues Survey has been launched for a number of jurisdictions, including Lethbridge. In order to have access to the best data possible we are seeking as many respondents as possible between the ages of 15 and 29 to complete this short 5-10 minute online survey.
Through our ongoing conversation, we will be looking to the community, especially our youth, to help us shape Lethbridge into a city that not only supports its youth, but also includes them in shaping our shared future.
As this is an ongoing conversation, there is not a defined end date to this project.
