Animal Bylaw Review
Let’s ‘paws’ and talk about how we live alongside all creatures in our community. Share your thoughts on how we regulate animals in our city!
The City has a number of bylaws that look at how domestic and wild animals should be kept, some of these bylaws have not been reviewed in more than 20 years. In order to provide the community with a bylaw that is current and is based on best practices, Regulatory Services and Community Animal Services are:
- Reviewing the current bylaw; and
- Bringing forward recommendations for the drafting of a new amalgamated bylaw.
To ensure the new bylaw is reflective of the needs of the community, public engagement is needed to incorporate residents' and stakeholder feedback. The bylaw will come before Council in Q3 of 2024.

Our neighbourhood cat is delightful. He beings so much joy and help for the mental health of the neighbours and connects the neighbourhood. He also is a great mouser. More birds are killed by windows than by this cat. What does the city need to change the regulation for?

AMCouple5 months agoChanges to dog training facility guidelines
Being involved in dog training activities, the bylaws are not fair with respect to facility location. This bylaw needs to be reviewed and updated to allow for more flexibility.
2CM875 months agoProhibit non-service animals in medical/dental offices
With the prevalence of potentially dangerous health issues associated with animal exposure for members of our population, dogs and cats (excepting licensed service animals) should not be allowed in medical offices. Patients shouldn't have to choose between access to health care services like obstetrical care or cardiac care and their own health just because a member of the office staff likes to bring their pet to work.

12Community Conversation6 months agoFake service dogs are a problem.
12RARW5 months agoBan Pitbulls
They are an unacceptable safety risk to the community, especially to children and the elderly. All it takes is one owner to lose control of their dog for someone's life to be at risk.
